EXPLORING SICILY

Day 1 Rome

Arrival at Rome, transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight in hotel. 

 

Day 2 Rome/Catania - Taormina

Breakfast in hotel, then transfer to the airport to take the flight to Catania, on Sicily island. Arrived in Catania, transfer to Taormina. Spectacularly perched on the side of a mountain, Taormina is one of Sicily's most popular summer destinations. Dinner and overnight in hotel. 

 

Day 3 Taormina - Alcantara Gorge - Taormina

Breakfast in hotel. Transfer to explore Alcantara Gorge. The gorge is over 50m deep and its canyon is filled with lava. The Alcantara river offers many beautiful sights like waterfalls, vertical basalt cliffs. In the afternoon, go to visit the vineyards. Here climate and ground conditions determine unique Etna grapes and wine. Wine tasting. In the evening go back to Taormina. Dinner and overnight in hotel. 

 

Day 4 Taormina - Etna - Siracusa

Breakfast in hotel. Transfer to explore Mount Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe. Take the cable car to arrive at 1900m, then it is possible to hike to reach summit craters. In the afternoon, transfer to Siracusa. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

 

Day 5 Siracusa - Modica 

Breakfast in hotel. In the morning visit of Siracusa,  notable for its rich Greek history, culture, amphitheatres, architecture, and as the birthplace of the preeminent mathematician and engineer Archimedes. In the afternoon, transfer to Modica. Modica is  a historic town ifamous for its chocolate and Baroque architecture. Modica chocolate is Aztec-inspired and is one of the world’s best-kept ancient secrets. Its recipe gives the chocolate a peculiar grainy texture and aromatic flavor. Visit a local chocolate factory. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

 

Day 6 Modica - Agrigento 

Breakfast in hotel. Transfer to Agrigento and visit its archaeological area: the Valley of the Temples, an exceptional historic testimony of Magna Grecia’s presence in this area. The archaeological site at Agrigento was inserted onto the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

 

Day 7 Agrigento - Erice - Marsala 

Breakfast in hotel. Transfer to the town of Erice, over the port of Trapani, on 750m above sea level. Erice is a mesmerizing walled medieval town, and has a notorious history as a centre for the cult of Venus. In the afternoon, continue to explore the island, and go visiting the ancient seaside town of Marsala. Admire the sunset at Marsala salt pans. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

 

Day 8 Marsala - Monreale - Palermo 

Breakfast in hotel and transfer to Palermo. On the way, stop to visit Monreale, a historic hill-town just outside Palermo. It’s a picturesque place most famous for the fine mosaics in the town’s great Norman cathedral. Then, continue towards Palermo, a city with a mixture of Byzantine mosaics, Arabesque domes and frescoed cupolas. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

 

Day 9 Palermo - Roma

Breakfast in hotel. Transfer to the airport to fly back to Rome.
